Nederlandse uitspraken zijn toegevoegd aan Premonition, een litigation database. Dit kunstmatige intelligentie systeem gebruikt big data om te achterhalen welke advocaten rechtszaken winnen bij welke rechters. Het bedrijf beweert dat de juiste combinatie advocaat/rechter de uitkomst van een zaak met 30.7 procent beïnvloedt.

Premonition is naar eigen zeggen de grootste ligitation database ter wereld. Een rechtenstudent vroeg het Amerikaanse bedrijf om Nederlandse zaken toe te voegen. ‘In theorie zou ons kunstmatige intelligentie systeem elke taal in elk alfabet kunnen leren. We dachten dat het een goede test zou zijn. Ik ben blij om te zien dat het succesvol is geweest,’ zegt oprichter Tobey Unwin.

Analytics voor procedures; dat brengt Premonition naar het recht. Het systeem achterhaalt wie wint bij welke rechter, in welk soort zaken en hoe lang de procedure duurt. De juiste combinatie advocaat-rechter kan de uitkomst van een zaak met 30.7 procent beïnvloeden, beweert het bedrijf. Onderzoek dat Premonition deed in het Verenigd Koninkrijk wees uit dat er in de advocatuur maar nauwelijks samenhang was tussen prijs en prestatie. Een willekeurig advocaat kiezen zou beter uitpakken dan selecteren op reputatie, status van kantoor of uurtarief.

Premonition is te gebruiken door bedrijfsjuristen om de juiste advocaat voor hun zaak te zoeken, maar ook voor advocatenkantoren om nieuwe mensen te vinden.
